floppy

There was a time before the Internet. Yes kids, there was. And before that, there was a time before personal computers. I know, who'd have thought?

And in the period between those two times, well if you wanted to distribute information in a computer form... there were floppy disks. So, back then I had an idea to use pictures I'd taken of various aircraft, mostly at RAF Valley, combine that with information I got from books (books! yes I actually went to the library to find them) and distribute this information to the world on floppy disk. I marketed them in Air Forces Monthly - I did not sell many. And then came websites, and I used what was on that floppy disk to start these pages, notably this page. The info in these pages is all correct, but correct about 20+ years ago.

Just as an amusing historical note, nerdy types may notice that this page is named "datashts.htm" - I can't really remember now why I thought that was a good title for this stuff, but I did. But way back when this page was created, probably 1996, well file names could only be 8 characters in length with a three character extension. Back then there were many restrictions and disk space limitations which now seem unbelievable.
