Getting back to the main theme of this article, let’s acquaint you with Polestar 1 and 2, Volvo’s premium offerings that are expected to arrive in 2020. Polestar was originally established in the year 1996 as Flash Engineering. The rebranding occurred in 2005 and Volvo’s performance division finally had a brand of its own after being acquired by Swedes in the year 2015. Here is an archive of various past and present vehicles, including that of Volvo.
Like its parent company, Polestar will also be all about performance, safety and pragmatic luxury. However, there will be plenty of focus on electric and hybrid vehicles from here on.
About Polestar 1 and Polestar 2
Polestar 1 has already been showcased, while the second vehicle in the series, Polestar 2 made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show some time ago in 2019. The competition in the electric car space is expected to heat up tremendously with its launch. Featuring a native implementation of Android Auto, Polestar 2 is expected to give a stiff competition to Tesla Model 3. While the first model of the series was basically a high-performance hybrid 2-door coupe, this one will be the biggest competitor of Tesla Model 3 whenever it hits the market.
Both Polestar 1 and Polestar 2 are concept cars from Volvo, however they will have a major difference in terms of their availability and price. Polestar 1, the high-performance coupe is going to cost somewhere in the vicinity of $ 155,000, Polestar 2, the EV sedan is expected to start from under $ 40,000.
Polestar 1 offers a combination of a supercharged 4-cylinder and 2.0 L turbocharged petrol engine, coupled with 2 electric motors, providing a healthy 215 hp in the rear. When combined with 34 kWh battery pack, you get close to 600 hp, with as much as 150 miles range on electricity alone. No more than 500 units will be produced of this car.
On the other hand, Polestar 2 offers an all-electric range of 311 miles, and an overall 402 hp. That’s the range-topping model we are talking about, which is expected to cost in the vicinity of $ 60,000. Fewer amenities, shorter range and less power will be available in the entry-level models.
