I loved this little beastie. It converted me to the religion of Capri Ownership. When I bought it, the starter motor would only turn over very slowly, so I replaced the battery and starter but no difference. I called out the RAC, who told me the earth straps were always a bit pants on these cars, so I went and fitted beefier straps where I could. That sorted it. I moved to London and used it a lot in London traffic and it always ran well and never overheated. It was a little underpowered, particularly on the motorway. I managed to burn out number three exhaust valve on the M40 one Saturday evening while going to a friend's wedding, but it still got 4 of us back from Oxford to London on 3 cylinders. I had a new unleaded head fitted along with a new radiator. The mechanic who fitted the new head put the timing belt on one tooth out though, so it then kept burning out points. I took it to a different mechanic after that. Not long after that I bought another Capri, a 2.0S. Now that had a bit more power... |
| Modifications |
Kenwood CD head unit and electric aerial. Also painted the radiator grille and headlight surrounds black. Always thought that looked much better on the Capri instead of the colour coded items on later Mk III models. |
