Why Buy A WOOD BURNING Stove?

Why Buy a Stove?
  • Good for the environment, reducing CO2 particle emissions
  • Helps to reduce the ‘carbon footprint’
  • Cheaper to run than other fuels - gas, electricity, oil
  • A modern stove is an eye-catching centrepiece for any room
  • Provides an ambience and cosiness - watching dancing flames is a therapeutic experience
  • Properly cared for, it will last for many years
  • Can be linked to run a central-heating system
  • No need for any other fuel source to light
  • Heat is produced quickly and controlled by regulating the air flow
  • Properly dried logs are readily available
  • Pellet stoves are fully controllable
What size of stove do I need?
Heat output is generally measured in kilowatts. Stoves come in a variety of styles and sizes. Generally, the bigger the stove, the more fuel it will burn and the more heat it will generate.

In choosing the right size of stove, an approximate calculation can be done by measuring the area of the room in metres and dividing this by 6

e.g.
Room 6m x 4m = 24m²÷6 = 4 kilowatts
Room 7.5mx4.5m = 33.75m²÷6 = 5.6 kilowatts

However, in terms of usage, it is better to buy a bigger rather than a smaller stove because it is always easier to add wood if more heat is required.
Terminology
Stoves were the traditional heating and cooking appliance in all homes. Today, whilst the term remains, the majority of stoves are focal point fires and are manufactured in a variety of:
  • Designs, from traditional to modern (contemporary)
  • Colours, eg: traditional matt black, ivory, blue, green, brown
  • Finishes, eg: matt, gloss, enamel, metallic
Multi-fuel defines stoves that are capable of burning both wood, coal and peat logs. In many ranges there are also matching gas and electric stoves available.
